    <description>On 6 June 1944 the 50th Infantry Division under General Graham landed in Normandy on Gold Beach between Ver-sur-Mer et Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer. The British were assigned to capture Bayeux eight kilometers from the coast. The 69th Infantry Brigade commanded by Brigadier Knox slammed ashore in a strong fortified area. With the tanks support of the 4/7th Royal Dragoons Guards of the 8th Armoured Brigade the British assaulted the strong point WN 33 and WN 34. The 6th Battalion Green Howards neutralized the position WN 35 held by a company of russian Ost Battalion, then they seized battery of Mont Fleury. The 7th Battalion Green Howards landed in the second wave, they liberated Ver-sur-Mer cleared of German troops. &#13;</description>
